At-A-Glance Information

Commonly referred to as False Arborvitae, Deer-Horn Cedar, Asunaro, and Hiba Cedar, this species of evergreen tree is native to Japan. They have a pyramidal shape to them and need full sun (partial shade in warmer climates) and moderate to regular water. These trees reach 30-50 feet tall and 10-20 feet wide, with an interesting branching habit. Great in containers when young, and as lawn trees when mature. Deer-Horn Cedars are best in zones 3b-7 and 14-17 (to find your zone, click here: Zone Map). Varieties include 'Nana' (a dwarf form to 3 feet tall and wide) and 'Variegata' (with white branch tips that revert to green after some time).
