These grassy perennials, commonly called Bear Grass or Indian Basket Grass, need full sun to light shade and little to moderate water to perform well. They are native to many areas in the western United States, and form clumps of wiry, grasslike leaves 2-3 feet tall and just as wide. In summer, tall stalks form that are topped with masses of white flowers. These plants only begin to flower after being established for a few years, and they may not flower at all in home gardens.
