Nelumbo Species and Varietals
The genus Nelumbo is the type genus member of the plant family Nelumbonaceae, and includes just two species.
Nelumbo lutea (American Lotus, Yellow Lotus, Water-Chinquapin, Volée) This species is native to North America, where it grows naturally in lakes and swamps, as well as areas that are subject to frequent flooding. Roots anchor in mud, and the leaves and flowers emerge above the surface. Pale yellow to white flowers emerge in springtime and continue into summer. |
