Pulsatilla vulgaris
( ??? )
At-A-Glance InformationThis species of flowering herbaceous perennial, also called Pasque Flower (and known botanically under the name Anemone pulsatilla), needs full sun and regular water. It is native to central Europe and forms a foot-wide rosette of foliage, from which short, flowering stems are produced. Flowers bloom in early spring, a single flower per stem. Flower color ranges from white to pink to purple and red. Seed clusters that follow the flowers are showy and fluffy. Plants start from a woody root, and reach 1.5 feet tall by the time blooms pop; foliage is green and fern-like. Varieties include 'Pinwheel White' (with white flowers), 'Alba' (white flowers), 'Rubra' (with red flowers), and 'Red Clock' (also with red flowers). Pasque Flower grows best in zones 2b-6 and 15-17.
