At-A-Glance Information

Commonly called Yellow Flax or Pyoli, this shrubby perennial plant needs full sun to partial shade and moderate to regular water. Reinwardtia indica is the sole species in the genus, which is a member of the Linaceae plant family.  Plants typically will reach 3 feet tall and are native to the mountain regions in Pakistan and China. Plants are profuse bloomers, with yellow flowers that can appear as early as late winter (in mild regions) and fade in fall. Each flower lasts just a day, but is quickly replaced by a new blossom. Leaves are green to greyish green and evergreen. Yellow Flax grows well in zones 8-10, 12-24, H1 and H2. To find your zone, click here: Zone Map.

Caring for Reinwardtia

Yellow Flax prefers fertile, well-draining soil. The plant can be pinched at branch tips to encourage a bushier, less leggy habit, and mature plants should be cut back hard after blooms fade to keep a compact size.
