At-A-Glance InformationThis genus, commonly called Poor Man's Orchid, Butterfly Flower or Fringeflower, needs filtered sun and regular water. These plants produce a profuse show of orchid-like flowers that can come in pink, rose, lilac, purple, or white, and grow to reach about a foot to two feet tall when in bloom. All varieties have flowers marked with various colors and are long lasting in flower arrangements. The genus Schizanthus is a member of the plant family Solanaceae and includes 12 species. Caring for Schizanthus pinnatus
Plant in springtime where summers are mild and in fall where they are not. They prefer rich, well-draining soil and a site in the garden that is sheltered from winds.
