Cyperus alternifolius (Umbrella Plant) Best in zones 8, 9, 12-24, H1 and H2, this plant has spreading leaves arranged like the arms of an umbrella (hence the common name, Umbrella Plant). Reaches 2-4 feet tall, and is great near bodies of water, in rock gardens, near pools, in pots or planters, and in dry streambeds. This species will self-sow, and can become a bit of a weed. Variety 'Gracilis' (also known as 'Nanus', reaches just 1.5 feet tall). |
