Caring for Gourd
Gourds need to be planted in well-draining soil that is fertile. Sow seeds in place as soon as the ground is warm, or start indoors. Set out seedlings 2 feet apart, and they will grow quickly to 10-15 feet tall. They do best when provided with a structure to grow on so that the fruit is not resting on the ground. Leave the fruits on the vine for as long as possible (until they turn yellow or brown), and then cut off the vine with some of the stem attached. Hang the fruits up to dry by their stems in a cool airy spot, and then preserve them with a wax or lacquer coating.
