Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra'
( ??? )
At-A-Glance InformationCommonly called Japanese Blood Grass, this perennial grass forms clumps of bright red vertical grass blades with green bases. These grasses reach 1-2 feet tall and a foot wide, spreading slowly via underground runners. Plant these in a spot where the sun can shine through the blades. Will turn straw-colored in wintertime, when it is best to cut this grass to the ground. Japanese Blood Grass grows best in zones 2b-24, needs full sun to partial shade (color is more brilliant the more sun the grass receives), and requires regular water for best performance.
