Lunaria annua
( loo - NAY - ree - uh )
At-A-Glance InformationThis biennial plant, commonly called Money Plant, is native to Europe and considered to be a bit 'old-fashioned'. They are known for their coin-shalped appendages that remain after seed pods have dropped off, and their spring flowers that resemble wild mustard. Flowers can be purple or white, and the plant itself reaches 1.5-3 feet tall and a foot wide. These plants are hardy and vigorous, reseeding freely (they can become a bit of a weed if not controlled). Money Plant grows best in zones 2-10 and 14-24 (To find your zone, click here: Zone Map), and needs afternoon shade in the hottest climates. It requires little to regular water.
