Commonly called Cat's Claw or Yellow Trumpet Vine, this species of flowering evergreen or deciduous vine needs full sun to partial shade and moderate water to perform at its peak. They are vigorous growers native to Mexico and the West Indies over to Uruguay. it reaches 25-40 feet in length and attaches itself to structures using clawed tendrils. It blooms in early spring with profuse yellow trumpet flowers and has light green leaves. It does best in areas with hot summers, and can climb any surface with ease. It can also be used as a groundcover, and is a good erosion-control plant. It is evergreen in light-frost areas, deciduous otherwise. Cat's Claw grows well in zones 8-24, H1 and H2. Caring for MAcfadyena unuis-cati
After bloom has faded, cut back some of the stems almost to the ground to stimulate leaf production closer to the base of the plant. This vine tends to produce foliage at stem tips, and this habit can create a vine that is a bit bare towards the base. During growing season, pinch back tips as needed to control for size and shape.
