At-A-Glance InformationThis species of flowering herbaceous perennials grow from bulb and need full sun or light shade and regular watering during growth and bloom periods. They are native to the Middle East, and are members of the only species in their genus. These plants produce 6-inch tall spikes of flowers above strappy leaves. Flowers are pale blue with a dark blue stripe. The most common variety is Puschkinia scilloides libanotica, which has more pointed petals than the species. There is also Puschkinia scilloides 'Alba' with white flowers. Puschkinia scilloides grows best in zones 1-11 and 14 (To find your zone, click here: Zone Map).

Caring for Puschkinia scilloides
Soil should be kept moist until foliage appears, and then the plant should receive water regularly until the leaves begin to yellow in early summer. This plant will go dormant during the warmer months of the year, during which it does not need water. This plant seldom needs to be divided.
