Schizophragma hydrangeoides
(Pro - nun - see - ashun )
At-A-Glance Information
Commonly called Japanese Hydrangea Vine, this deciduous species needs partial shade and regular water for best performance. They can reach 30 feet or more and are native to Korea and Japan, growing best in zones 2-9 and 14-17 (to find your zone, click here: Zone Map). Blossoms are white and appear in flat clusters in summertime. The clusters resemble Lacecap Hydrangeas, with sterile outer blossoms that produce only one petal each. Great on walls or trees in shaded areas. Varieties include 'Moonlight' (with blue-green foliage) and 'Roseum' (with pink flowers).
