At-A-Glance InformationCommonly called Jacobean Lily or Aztec Lily, this genus of perennial flowering plants grows from bulb and needs full sun and regular water during their growth and bloom periods. It is a native of Mexico, commonly sold under the name Amaryllis formosissima. The flower is somewhat orchid-like, and bloom in early summertime. Jacobean Lily grows best in zones 9 and 12-24. Caring for Sprekelia formosissima
Plant bulbs in fall spaced 8 inches apart, 3-4 inches under the soil surface in well-draining, fertile soil. They are best when grouped. Jacobean Lily can also be grown in containers if repotted every three or four years.
