At-A-Glance InformationThis perennial species of flowering herbaceous plant grows from bulb and needs full sun and regular water during its growing and blooming periods. They are sometimes called Autumn Daffodils. These flowers are native to the western Mediterranean over to central Asia, and have golden yellow flowers that bloom in early fall. Leaves remain through wintertime and fade in spring. They are great for along pathways or along the edges of patios. Sternbergia lutea grows well in zones 3-10 and 14-24. Caring for sternbergia lutea
These flowers love well-draining soil. Plant them 4 inches deep and 6 inches apart, and if your winter temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, make sure to cover the bulbs with a layer of mulch to protect them. Divide only when they are struggling to perform as normal; they otherwise do not do well if disturbed. During summer, withhold water as it lays dormant. If the area cannot stay dry, grow them in containers and move them to a dry place during their dormancy. These plants will bloom better when they are pot-bound.
